DAY 1 - Travel Adventures (from Patience)

We started our day yesterday January 19 at 5:30 am with a ride to the airport. Right away someone realized they forgot a suitcase and we had to have someone bring it quick to the airport! Then we had ALOT if problems checking in to our flight with USairways. First there were unexpected baggage fees, then the kiosk didn't work . Then the computer wouldn't process half the team members and the luggage tags were entered manually. This took a very long time. Then we go through security and our co leader gets flagged for her Bible of all things! Apparently people sometimes smuggle things in Bibles. We all finally made it to the plane- we were the last ones on. It was a pretty empty flight so we had some space and took naps. We flew Philly to Miami.
In Miami we had an hour between flights and of course the gate was alllll the way across the very large airport so we ran a long way, waited through a long line at security and literally barely made our flight ! One team member fortunately got through security first and bought us all sandwiches since we were hungry.
The Haiti airport was interesting. We were greeted by a haitian music group playing music as we walked down to customs. This guy there aphid three cowboy hats on! It was pretty funny . He also had a walking stick he carried. I wanted to take a picture but not allowed to photograph in the airport. So we get to baggage claim and three totes of supplies were missing. We spent a lot of time arguing with the staff there and finally left. We had a very bumpy ride to the orphanage through unpaved and a few paved roads. We took a lot of pictures of the landscape, tent cities, walls, buildings, devastation, poverty, people, etc. We asked the director of three angels lots of questions (he was our bus driver).

Once at three angels compound we got to talk to a board member, the director, the directors wife, the new missionary couple who will be overseeing the orphanage, and asked all our questions. We toured the orphanage, took pictures, met the kids. They are all about 9 months to 2 1/2 years old, mostly boys.
We also inventoried all the supplies we brought and grouped by like items.
Our team had a little debrief and then we got to finally go to bed. Thanks to prayer the very loud music/ voodoo fest in the background finally stopped and we got to sleep! Most of us slept pretty well!
Our guest house here is very nice. We have decent accommodations and the compound is really neat.
